Young Gardeners this weekend, Saturday and Sunday 2-3 pm 24-25 April!

Some good news: Spacehive have extended our deadline to 31st May!! We are getting closer to our target thanks to everyone’s amazing efforts, pledges and offers of help. The garden is looking much tidier round the edges, roses are fed and watered. Let’s see if they flower this summer! Railings etc will be the next thing to tackle once we know we have the funding. We’ve been chatting to Rosie, a landscape ecologist from London Wildlife Trust and coming up with lots of ideas for children to learn about native plants, birds and wildlife hiding in the garden. We’re also hoping to put a bench in one of the front corners of the garden so there’s somewhere to sit and chat to gardeners or passers-by.

Big push!

We need everyone to help now with a big push to spread the word more widely in the area, stimulate even more interest from local residents and attract some more pledges. Once the garden is restored and replanted everyone, not just the immediate local residents, will be able to enjoy it so much more! So, who better to make this big push than the Young Gardeners! (YG).

Children, grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, neighbours, school friends … and all those Young-At-Heart 💜

What’s in the box?

Rule of six or only two households together in the garden is obviously still important and applicable. Face coverings ready please if you are close to others, though keeping 2 metres apart is the aim.

Pick a nice sunny spot for your sunflower!

1. Have a chat to find out more

1. One person from the GCRRA or a household group will be at corner of The Square/Bethell Ave, for more seed giveaways, handing out slips with the Spacehive URL to help you see how to pledge a pound or two. If anyone wants a potted up seedling in exchange for a donation, these are in pots inside the garden. You can plant the seedling now or take it away to nurture, keep it at home or bring it back to The Square to plant when it’s a bit bigger.

2. Come into the garden to have a look where to plant 🌻

2. One person or household group at the gate will check that there are no more than 5 people or one household at a time are together in the garden.

3. Label your 🌻

3. One person or a small household group from the GCRRA will be inside the garden with seedlings, lolly sticks, hand sanitiser and felt tip pens for you to write a plant label. No sharing of pens so you can take away a free pen if you use one!

You are invited to take your seed or seeding home to get it to grow bigger, or to plant your seed or seedling directly… EITHER in the front flowerbed OR the bed opposite side to the gate. Place your lolly stick next to where you planted it! Or take your lolly stick home to use when you plant it later!

Let’s try it and see what happens! The early bird catches the worm!

If you (and any household members) live in the GCRRA area and want to be one of the 3 helpers, please email GCRRA@outlook.com before Saturday.

First come first served for the seedlings! Or you are welcome to bring your own seedlings this weekend or later on next month if they have germinated!

GoParksLondon and others are supporting us by mentioning us in their networks. Please retweet, like etc etc. https://twitter.com/gardenredbridge/status/1385094591024701441?s=21 so we can keep getting more followers and spread the word!

Please follow! If you’re not on Twitter and don’t want to publicise yourself, just create an account with either just your initials or a nickname. There are lots of photographs and great information from other groups like ours on the Twitter feeds and you can like and retweet our posts to spread the word.

Remember the Cranbrook Square Garden project is @CranbrookGarden and the GCRRA residents’ association itself is @GardenRedbridge on Twitter. Thanks to @DoMoreInRedbridge and @RedbridgeLibs libraries for retweeting!

Residents of the GCRRA, please keep handing out slips (with the URL for the Spacehive project) that were emailed out a couple of weeks ago to all your neighbours. If you didn’t receive that email and want us to resend it, let us know.

We want to make it easier to show people how to log in to Spacehive to pledge a pound or two. At this stage, every little pledge will help us towards achieving the target. It is now possible to pledge using PayPal and no money will be taken until after the deadline of 31st May.

Looking forward to seeing you this weekend! 🌻 🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻
